I am influenced by vintage American illustration from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s and frequently absorb materials I see in those advertisements into my own implied narratives.  I also love Flemish painting of the 1400’s to the 1600’s as well as Indian street graphics and vintage propaganda posters from China.  From these sources I select a charged gesture, a meaningful glance or particularly choice hair-do or cute jumpsuit and absorb it into some improvised scenario that grows organically out of that first seminal piece.   I am not really interested in any one explanation for any of the art I make.  Rather, I am interested in people creating their own relationship with each piece, creating their own stories and using the images as a stage for their own imaginations to play.
